Temba Bavuma scored 70 runs in the first innings of the first SA vs SL test at Durban.
The first test of Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa 2024 kicked off on November 27, in Durban. This test series holds importance for both South Africa and Sri Lanka in the race to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Batting first on the seaming pitch in Durban, South Africa started their innings on a poor note. Sri Lanka’s pace trio ran riot, reducing the hosts to 83/5. Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando claimed three wickets each, while Vishwa Fernando chipped in with a couple.
Amid the disappointment on the other end, captain Temba Bavuma propelled the hosts to a fighting total of 191. Bavuma’s innings of 70 runs consisted of nine fours and a six. Bavuma stitched a crucial 26-run partnership with Keshav Maharaj for the eighth wicket, ensuring his team reached a respectable total.
The most remarkable moment of Bavuma’s stay came during the 42nd over. Facing a bouncer from Lahiru Kumara, Bavuma showcased excellent athleticism, leaping with both feet in the air to uppercut the ball over the wicketkeeper’s head for a six.
