Shubman Gill scored 18 runs in 19 balls with 2 boundaries before getting out to a controversial catch.

India are chasing 444 runs against Australia to win their maiden World Test Championship title. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started positively to Australia’s given task but Shubman Gill once again failed to make a mark in the big game. Cameron Green took a screamer of a catch once again to dismiss India’s in-form batter. Though this take emerged as an inconclusive one, as third umpire Richard Kettleborough also took multiple replays to decide on his final decision as out. The batter and his opening partner Rohit Sharma showed disappointment after the umpire's ruling. Gill was batting positively on 18 in 19 balls with 2 boundaries.

Green's catch started a debate

Scott Boland drew Shubman Gill forward who tried to jab it down the third man but it bounced a touch higher than Gill expected, the ball flew towards the third slip where Cameron Green took a low catch diving to his left. Green had plucked the catch cleanly but while grabbing the ball his hands brushed the ground and then fell over to have control of the ball. In replays, it was visible that Green had his fingers between the ball and the ground which was not clear. Gill was completely disappointed and was in disbelief for some time as he walked out with Captain Rohit for tea.

This also created a debate among the experts and commentators. Harsha Bhogle tweeted after Gill's dismissal. He said, “It was a great effort from Cameron Green, but it is the moment immediately after the catch is taken when the hands turn, that must cause Shubman Gill to be very disappointed”.

India are chasing 444 runs as Australia declared their innings on 270/8. Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey’s 93 runs partnership put Australia in a comfortable position. This huge target looks tough for Team India but they have got caliber to the unthinkable.
