Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals faced defeat in hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring game at Jaipur.

A team with the two highest scores in the game and a brilliant bowling spell ended up on the losing side. A no-ball drama, in the end, proved costly for Rajasthan Royals. Despite Jos Buttler (95), Sanju Samson (66) and Yuzvenda Chahal’s (4/29) effort, Royals failed to defend 214 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sandeep Sharma had 17 runs to defend in the last over but his one blunder has put the Royals' campaign and their chances for the playoffs in doubt. The Royals had a brilliant batting performance against SRH. They posted 214 runs on the board with the help of a marathon 138 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket between Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. Chasing 215, Hyderabad got off to a great start with Abhishek Sharma (55) and Rahul Tripathi (47) adding 65 runs for the second wicket.

Sanju Samson believes RR will make a come back

Royals' leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal with his spell of 4/29 tried hard to put SRH under pressure. Once Tripathi got out, RR looked comfortable but soon after Glenn Phillips came and just blew away all the hard work done by Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Chahal with his 7-ball innings. Phillips smashed 25 runs in 7 balls with help of 1 four and 3 sixes. Abdul Samad with a last-ball six sealed the game for SRH. After all the drama, Royals' captain Sanju Samson said, “This is what IPL gives you, matches like these make the IPL special. You can never, never feel like you have won the game”. With a loss against SRH, RR will have a tough road ahead for the playoffs. Talking about RR’s chances, he said, “I don’t know, To be honest life is never easy playing this format, especially this tournament. Each and every game we have to play our best standard of cricket. We will come back and try to do it again”

A lucky but hard fought win for SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s win against Rajasthan Royals may change the entire IPL 2023 playoff race. The Royals have their last three games back-to-back. This result will be going to make a huge impact in the upcoming matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad as well as for Rajasthan Royals. Talking about the win, Captain Aiden Markram said, “Emotions turned quite quickly, chasing 215 isn’t easy, and guys contributed all along to chase a big target”. Hyderabad, after a great start in the top order, had brilliant cameos from Klassen, Glenn Phillips, and Abdul Samad. Aiden Markran said, “Those cameos from Phillips and Klassy, I think you got to train for it and put yourself under pressure, You are playing high-risk cricket”

Phillips won the POTM for his 7-ball innings

Glenn Phillips won the player of the match award for his 7 balls inning. Phillips changed the momentum after Tripathi’s wicket when RR were going on top of their game with Chahal’s brilliant spell. Phillips smashed 25 runs to provide SRH with an important win and 2 points. Talking about his performance he said, “It was a situation where it was going to go one of two ways. Happy to get out on top of this one. We are all here to do our job, this is what the team needed”
