The West Indies and Nepal will play three T20I games in Sharjah.
The West Indies Cricket Team will clash with the Nepal Cricket Team for the first time in a bilateral series. The Caribbean side will face the Asian team in a three-match T20I series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Although the T20I series will be played at a neutral venue, Nepal are the official hosts of the series. The three games will be played on September 27, 28, and 30 respectively. The series will provide a crucial platform to Nepal in the lead-up to the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers later this year.
The West Indies are currently busy in a T20I series against Ireland, of which the first encounter was washed out due to rain. Two more games will take place during the series. On the other hand, Nepal will be seen in action during the tri-series comprising Scotland and the Netherlands. The tri-series will be hosted by Scotland.
West Indies and Nepal faced each other during ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers
During the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in June 2023, Nepal and the West Indies locked horns with each other in an ODI encounter. The Shai Hope-led West Indies outplayed Nepal by a huge margin of 101 runs. They posted a gigantic total of 339/7 in the first innings and later bowled out Nepal for 238. Both teams failed to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the end of the tournament.
Speaking about the historic series with Nepal, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) chief executive Chris Dehring said that they are proud to support Nepal in their cricketing journey and are looking forward to an exciting competition in Sharjah.
“Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at the grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation and wearing our national colours. We are proud to stand with Nepal at this moment in their history and look forward to exciting and competitive cricket in Sharjah,” he said in an official statement.
Meanwhile, Shai Hope was recently appointed the T20I captain of the West Indies. They own the fifth spot in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rankings for T20I teams. Rohit Paudel is the current skipper of Nepal in the shortest format, and they hold the 18th spot in the ICC T20I team rankings.
