This tournament will have the top 20 teams across the globe fighting to become the World Champions. This tournament will be played in the West Indies and the USA. These teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each.
West Indies, who couldn’t qualify for the main round of the last edition in Australia, will be part of the coming edition by default as the hosts. They are placed in Group C, along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea. The Caribbean team are pretty strong in home conditions and will fancy their chances. But there was a time when this side was best in this format. Under the leadership of Darren Sammy, West Indies won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016, and it won’t be a surprise if they do it again at home. They will play their opening match against Papua New Guinea on June 2 in Guyana.
Their next match will be against Uganda on June 8 in Guyana. These are a couple of easier games to start the tournament. Then, West Indies will face New Zealand on June 12 in Trinidad, which will be a big game in Group C. This game is likely to decide which team will top the group. Their last group match is scheduled for June 17 against Afghanistan in St. Lucia. One major thing that will be in their favor is the home conditions. They recently beat England at home in a white-ball series, who are the defending champions.
