India and West Indies are facing each other in a multi-format series that started with two test matches. The visitors won the test series 1-0, while the ongoing three-match ODI series is leveled at 1-1, with the third and final ODI to be played on Tuesday in Trinidad, which will be a series decider. After this, the five-match T20I series will kick off on August 3.

India had already announced their T20I squad, while the hosts named their squad on Monday. The West Indies Cricket Board has named a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match series. ODI captain Shai Hope made a comeback in the shorter format, along with pacer Oshane Thomas. The pacer played his last T20I game in December 2021, while Hope played against India in February 2022.

The first game will take place at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, while the second and third games will be played at Providence Stadium in Guyana on August 6 and 8. The tour will end on August 13 with the fifth and final game in Lauderhill, Florida. The chief selector, Desmond Haynes, confirmed that the squad was selected keeping the T20 World Cup 2024 in mind.

Notably, West Indies are the official hosts, along with USA, for the next edition of the T20 World Cup. Haynes also said, “As we prepare; we are looking to build a unit which we believe can do the job when we host the global event in just under a year.” West Indies couldn’t qualify for the main round of T20 World Cup 2022 and also for the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Speaking of the squad, Kyle Mayers will assist Rovman Powell as vice captain, while Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, and Johnson Charles will be the specialist batters. Jason Holder, Obed McCoy, Alzarri Joseph, and Odean Smith will be doing the pace bowling job.
