The first test between hosts West Indies and visitors India will be played at the Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica.

India’s calypso battle is beginning at Windsor Park in Dominica. Both teams will be opening their campaign for the next World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. India are coming after the WTC Final defeat against Australia in June at The Oval. The West Indies ODI team had a massive setback as they are missing out on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The Dominica test will also mark the start of India’s transition period as their long-standing member at number 3 Cheteshwar Pujara will be replaced by young Shubman Gill. Apart from a new number 3, Team India will also play with a young and fresh pace attack as Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav are rested and Jasprit Bumrah is still unfit.

India played their last game at this same venue 12 years ago where Team India’s defensive approach came under fire. Chasing 180 in the last inning on the last day in 37 overs, India only managed to score 94 runs with 3 wickets down. Dominica’s slow and low wicket will keep everyone interested as the batting becomes a little bit tougher with less bounce.

West Indies have slowly shifted to producing slow wickets from fast bouncy tracks in the previous century. Windsor Park and Queens Park Oval will offer a lot of purchases for the bowlers. West Indies attack looks more lethal than the young Indian pace attack as they have a home advantage and the experience of Kemar Roach, Jason Holder, and Shanon Gabriel.

Toss Update:

West Indies have won the toss and elected to bat first at Windsor Park in Dominica. West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite looks to take advantage of the dryness of the wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan have been handed maiden test caps from the Indian camp, while Alick Athanaze will make debut for West Indies.
