Indian Premier League 2026 is set to commence on March 28 with the opening game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. With just a few days left for IPL 2026, all the teams are finalising their preparations for the tournament.
So far, the schedule for the first 20 games has been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Due to the upcoming elections in several states, BCCI will announce the remaining schedule once the election dates are out.
BCCI has also announced several guidelines for teams and players for IPL 2026 to ensure discipline. All teams and players must follow these new rules and regulations; otherwise, they may incur fines. Below is the complete list of new rules and regulations laid down by BCCI just before the upcoming season.
New rules and regulations announced by the BCCI for IPL 2026

- Teams will get two nets in the practice area and one side wicket on the main square for range hitting.
- No open nets will be allowed.
- If one team finishes their practice before time, the other team will not be allowed to use the wicket for practice.
- No practice will be allowed on Match days.
- Teams are not permitted to conduct fitness tests on the main square on match days.
- Players are required to travel to the stadium on the team bus and separately from their family members on practice days. Family and friends can go to the venue in separate vehicles.
- On practice days, only accredited staff are allowed in the dressing room and on the field of play.
- Player’s family members and friends need to travel in a different vehicle and can watch team practice from the hospitality area.
- The list for additional support staff (throw-down specialist/net bowler) will have to be submitted to BCCI for approval. Once approved, non-match day accreditations will be issued.
- Players should use the team bus while coming to practice. Teams may travel in two batches.
- Despite providing hitting nets, players keep hitting on the LED boards. We request teams to adhere to it.
- Players and support staff are not allowed to sit in front of the LED boards. The sponsorship team will mark places across the FOP where substitutes carrying towels and water bottles can be seated.
- Players to wear orange and purple caps. If they do not wear caps, we request that the players wear them for the first two overs till the broadcast captures it.
- In the post-match presentation, floppies and sleeveless jerseys are not allowed. Failure to do so will result in a warning on the first instance. In the second instance, there will be a financial penalty.
- In case of a change in jersey numbers, please inform 24 hours in advance, as mentioned in the clothing & equipment guidelines.
