What happened last time when India faced South Africa in T20I in Ahmedabad?

India and South Africa played a T20I match on the Ahmedabad pitch in December last year.

India and South Africa will face each other in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8s on Sunday, February 22. This game will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the tournament moves into a more serious phase.

India qualified for the Super 8 stage without losing a game in the group stage, and the Proteas did the same thing, despite a narrow double super over win over Afghanistan. Both teams have performed well in some departments and still have a lot to do in other aspects of the game.

India’s batting, especially opener Abhishek Sharma and the middle order, has not been in the best of hitting form. Their strength has been the excellent bowling performances of both spinners and pacers.

For South Africa, the pressure is to perform in the actual phase of the ICC event, where they need to win every game to go into the semi-finals. Their batting and bowling have had their moments, but they have yet to click together in a game.

Ahead of the India vs South Africa Super 8 game in Ahmedabad, let’s take a look at what happened when these two teams clashed in a T20I at the same venue.
