Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) destroyed CSK bowlers in the final five overs to post the highest total of the IPL 2026.
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) more than made up for a slowish start by providing sensational entertainment to end their innings against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash. It all started with Virat Kohli and Phil Salt providing a decent start when the ball was swinging and hitting through the line was not easy.
Devdutt Padikkal initially struggled but later found form, and scored a half-century. However, RCB captain Rajat Patidar started the counter-attack with some incredible ball striking against both pacers and spinners. Tim David then ended CSK’s hopes of a possible comeback, smashing 30 runs off Jamie Overton in the 19th over.
Together, the pair scored 90+ in the last five overs, to post a total of 250. CSK, who are still searching for their first victory this season, are tasked with an extremely challenging task at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
What is CSK’s highest chase in IPL history?

CSK’s highest chase came against RCB, way back in 2012. They had chased down 208 on the back of a superb innings from Faf du Plessis, with captain MS Dhoni and Albie Morkel finishing off the match in style. Later in 2018, they had chased down 206, their second-highest total in a run-chase against the same opposition.
Their next best chase was against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018, when openers Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu laid the foundation, with Sam Billings coming up clutch to finish off the match in a memorable fashion.
However, since 2018, CSK have never managed to successfully chase down a total in excess of 200. Worryingly, since 2021, CSK have managed to chase down a 180+ score only once. Despite the batting friendly nature of wickets, CSK have not found much success while chasing down big scores.
They will have to script history today in Bengaluru if they wish to do the impossible.
