India and Pakistan, the much-awaited clash of the two Asian giants will happen when the Asia Cup begins on August 30, 2023. The tournament will be played in a hybrid model for the first time, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka being the hosts.
This happened because BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament that the neighbors were hosting for the first time since 2008. After many negotiations between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), it was finalized that while Pakistan will remain as the hosts of the tournament, Sri Lanka will also host a few matches.
ACC unveiled the schedule of the tournament, with Pakistan hosting four matches in total including three group games and one super fours match, while the rest of the matches and the final are to be played in Sri Lanka.
Asia Cup this year will be played from 30 August 2023 to 17 September 2023, with Multan hosting the tournament opener and Colombo hosting the final.
India will play all their games in Sri Lanka and have been put in Group A with Pakistan and Nepal. Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

The big encounter between India and Pakistan will take place on September 2nd, 2023 at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Two days after that game, India will play Nepal in their second group stage game on September 4th, also at the same venue.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup was announced on August 21, 2023, by the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar in the company of India captain Rohit Sharma in Delhi.
The squad saw the return of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna in the India ODI setup, while 20-year-old Tilak Varma was handed his maiden ODI call-up as well, after his impressive outing in West Indies T20I series.
Yuzvendra Chahal was dropped from the team in preference of an extra pacer.

The Pakistan squad also had some surprises as the Babar Azam-captained side saw Imad Wasim missing from the list. Also, Faheem Ashraf was picked as a pace bowling all-rounder after two years in the wilderness.
Tayyab Tahir was rewarded for his performance in the final of the Emerging Team’s Asia Cup event against India.

The tournament was a 50-over affair till 2014. After that, it was decided that the Asia Cup would be played in the format of the ICC event which followed it and hence the 2016 and 2022 editions were played in T20 format.
