India Women will square off with South Africa Women in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 final.
Indian Women Cricket Team outplayed Australia Women Cricket Team in the second semi-final of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 on Thursday, October 30, to book a berth in the final of the tournament. Now, they will square off with South Africa Women in the summit clash, scheduled to be played on November 2 (Sunday).
In the semi-final, India Women stunned the cricket fraternity by registering the record for the highest ever successful run-chase in Women’s ODI history. While chasing 339 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) came up with a marvellous innings, propelling the team to victory by five wickets with her unbeaten century. Now, India Women are one step away from winning the trophy.
Notably, this is the third time that India Women have made it to the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. They will aim to win the summit clash this time around as they failed to make a mark in the previous two finals they played.
When was the last time India Women played the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup final?

India Women made it to the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup for the first time in the 2005 edition, when they lost the summit clash to Australia Women by 98 runs. Their last appearance in the final came in the 2017 edition against England Women. During that tournament as well, India Women crushed Australia Women in the semi-final to book a berth in the summit clash.
However, the Mithali Raj-led side failed to win the final despite a marvellous performance in the encounter. Heather Knight-led England won the toss and opted to bat first in the match, which took place at The Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
With Jhulan Gowasmi’s three-wicket haul and Poonam Yadav’s two wickets, India Women did a wonderful job with the ball and restricted England to 227/7. Nat Sciver-Brunt (51) and Sarah Taylor (45) played a crucial role with the bat for their team.
While India Women looked favourites to win, they succumbed to pressure even after having a great start. Although, they lost key batters Smriti Mandhana (0) and Mithali Raj (17) early, opener Punam Raut scored 86 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur (51) and Veda Krishnamurthy (35) followed up with decent knocks.
At one stage, India Women reached 191/4 and were en-route to a comfortable victory. However, pacer Anya Shrubsole came to England’s rescue and clinched six wickets to bowl out India for 219 runs, leading the team to victory by a narrow margin of just nine runs. She also won Player of the Match award for her magnificent bowling performance.
