Punjab Kings will be featuring in the final of the IPL for the second time.
Punjab Kings (PBKS), under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, have come up with an incredible performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise has reached the final of the ongoing edition and would be keen to lift their maiden title.
PBKS have been one of the most consistent teams in the ongoing IPL 2025. With the majority of uncapped players in the team, Shreyas Iyer has marshalled his troops magnificently. The franchise ended the league stage at the top of the points table with nine wins under their belt from the 14 games.
PBKS, however, didn’t have a great outing in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Shreyas Iyer-led side was blown away by the opposition as they faced an eight-wicket thrashing in their home ground at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
But, they came up with a dominating performance in Qualifier 2, which was against Mumbai Indians (MI). The Punjab-based franchise displayed a brilliant bowling as well as batting effort and sealed their place in the summit clash.
Shreyas Iyer was the hero for his team as he led from the front and played one of his best innings in the IPL. Chasing the target of 204 runs, the skipper took the responsibility and despite wickets falling at the other end, he made sure that he didn’t let the pressure get on them.
Shreyas Iyer, who surpassed 600 runs in the ongoing IPL 2025, slammed an unbeaten 87 runs off 41 balls that powered PBKS to a five-wicket win. They chased the target with one over to spare. Apart from the captain, Nehal Wadhera (48) and Josh Inglis (38) also played vital hands.
PBKS will now be taking on RCB in the final of the IPL 2025. The match will be played at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (3rd June). Since both teams are yet to win the title, it will be a cracker of a game, and the league will see new champions.
When did PBKS played in the final of the IPL last time ?
Punjab Kings, formerly known as Kings XI Punjab, will be featuring in the final of the IPL for the second time. The last time they played the summit clash was back in 2014 under the leadership of George Bailey. The franchise locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which was captained by Gautam Gambhir.
However, it wasn’t the fairytale ending for the Punjab-based franchise as they went on to lose the game. The franchise had a brilliant outing with the bat as on account of century by Wriddhiman Saha (115*), they posted a total of 199 runs.
But, it wasn’t meant to be for PBKS as KKR came up with a better effort. Manish Pandey played a magical innings of 94 runs as they chased the target with three balls to spare and with three wickets in hand.
