BCCI reportedly has told Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26.
Two stalwarts of the Indian Cricket Team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are approaching the fag end of their career. The legends of Indian cricket have retired from T20I and test cricket and are now only active in ODI cricket, keeping ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 in the mind.
Both Rohit and Kohli have expressed their desire to play the tournament. But, since the last few months, there have been reports circulating that they won’t be there till the event. Some even claimed that ODIs against Australia later this year will be their last.
India will be playing three ODIs against Australia in October, and it was also reported earlier that the Cricket Australia (CA) is planning a farewell for them. This is because it will be the last time that they play in Indian colours Down Under.
On Sunday (10th August), a report in Dainik Jagran claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking at the future and they want to move on from Rohit and Kohli. But, with both players wanting to play the World Cup, the board has given them an ultimatum.
The reports claimed that if Rohit and Kohli want to play the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, then they will have to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Earlier this year, they were asked to play the Ranji Trophy as well.
