India and West Indies are locking horns in the 1st test at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The first test between Indian Cricket Team and West Indies Cricket Team got underway on Thursday, October 2 at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The toss went in the favour of the West Indies skipper Roston Chase, who opted to bat first.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill while talking about the XI, said that they have picked the combination of two pacers, one spinner, and three all-rounders. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah will be sharing the new-ball duties, while Nitish Kumar Reddy is the seam bowling all-rounder.

Kuldeep Yadav is the frontline spinner, while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar have been included as spin-bowling all-rounders. For West Indies, Khary Pierre and Johann Layne have made their test debut in the encounter.

Notably, India have been unbeaten against the West Indies in test cricket since last 23 years. The West Indies last won a test match against India in May 2002. During India’s tour of West Indies 2002, the hosts defeated India in the fifth test at Sabina Park, Kingston.

Led by Carl Hooper, West Indies posted 422/10 in the first innings after being asked to bat first by India. Opener Wavell Hinds (113) hammered a century, while Chris Gayle (68), Ramnaresh Sarwan (65), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (58), and Ridley Jacobs (59) scored fifties.

Mervyn Dillon clinched a five-wicket haul to bowl out India for just 212 runs in the first innings, with VVS Laxman (65*) being the only batter to score a half-century. In the second innings, West Indies were bowled out for 197 runs, however, they set a gigantic target of 408 runs for the visitors.

India, led by Sourav Ganguly, were bowled out for 252 runs to lose the clash by 155 runs. Sachin Tendulkar smacked an 86-run knock, however, it was not enough to bring the team home.
