India will begin their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia on 8th October in Chennai.

To end the 10 years long wait for an ICC title, Team India will be entering into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with a positive mindset. For the first time in World Cup history, India will be hosting the event alone. Before that, in 1987 Pakistan were the co-hosts, in 1996 along with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and in 2011 Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were co-hosts of the event with India.

After winning the title in 2011, India were knocked out in the semi-finals in the previous two editions in 2015, and 2019. In 2019 semi-final, New Zealand defeated India in a close rain-hit game to secure their second consecutive World Cup final clash.

India to play WC games in 9 different venues

India will be travelling to 9 World Cup venues to play their league games. Of 10 World Cup venues, only Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium will not be hosting India’s game. India will begin their campaign against Australia at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai and will finish their league stage at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore against the Netherlands.

Fans are waiting to watch their stars play live in their city. Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium with a capacity of more than 1 Lakh people will host the big India vs Pakistan World Cup clash in Ahmedabad. This will witness the most number of people watching the game. The venue will also host the World Cup Final on 19th November.

India got a direct ticket to the World Cup as the hosts of the tournament. In the last 12 editions, India got their hands on the title twice and qualified for the World Cup final thrice. India made a huge leap in Cricket after the 1983 World Cup win under Kapil Dev. This win inspired millions to pick up bats and balls in their hands in the country.

Then in 2003, South Africa team India under Sourav Ganguly played the World Cup Final against Australia in Johannesburg. Australia decimated India by 125 runs to win the World Cup title and continue their domination in the World Cup events. In 2011, under MS Dhoni team India won their second World Cup title defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai.
