Former Pakistan all-rounder and legendary captain Imran Khan has been in jail for more than 800 days. After his successful cricket career, Imran founded a Political Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 1996.

His party also won the national elections in Pakistan, with Imran becoming a crucial political figure in the Asian nation. In the 2018 general elections in Pakistan, PTI won with a majority, and Imran became the 22nd Prime Minister of the country.

However, in 2022, he was ousted via a no-confidence motion. In 2023, Imran’s arrest triggered protests in Pakistan, and the former captain was also sentenced to three years in prison over corruption charges. He has been in jail since then.

Imran’s sister Aleema Khanum has shed light on her brother’s worsening health conditions in prison, stating that he has lost 85% vision in his right eye.

After this news, former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev made an official appeal to the Government of Pakistan on this matter. The letter has been signed by a total of 16 legendary cricketers, including Dev and Gavaskar.

The other captains are Greg Chappell, Stephen Waugh, Michael Atherton, Allan Border, Michael Brearley, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark (Australian women’s captain), David Gower, Kim Hughes, Nasser Hussain, Clive Lloyd, Steve Waugh, and John Wright.

They stated that they want the Pakistan government to ensure safety and provide proper medical attention to the World Cup-winning captain.

“As fellow cricketers who understand the values of fair play, honour, and respect that transcend the boundary rope, we believe that a person of Imran Khan’s stature deserves to be treated with the dignity and basic human consideration befitting a former national leader and a global sporting icon,” the official letter read, as shared by ANI.

Meanwhile, Imran represented Pakistan from 1971 to 1992, playing 88 tests and 175 ODIs in his career. He was the captain of the Pakistan team that won the 1992 ODI World Cup.
