Shubman Gill was ruled out of the first IND vs SA test after neck injury.
Indian Cricket Team have been jolted with a massive blow during the ongoing first test against South African Cricket Team. Captain Shubman Gill on day two of the match faced a severe neck stiffness as he was batting at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Shubman Gill, who woke up with a bit of neck stiffness on day two, walked out to bat at four and looked in decent touch. On that third ball that he faced, he swept it for four and as he got up, he experienced severe pain on the right side of his neck.
Then he was unable to carry on and walked off the field. It was expected that he would come out to bat later on, but that wasn’t the case as he didn’t even come out on the field. After the day’s play ended, he was taken to the hospital, where he stayed overnight under observation.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement on Gill’s injury, confirming that the captain won’t be taking any further part in the game. The statement read:
“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play.
“He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team.”
