India will face the West Indies for a place in the semi-final.
India’s qualification equation for the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinals became a bit easier after the second round of matches in Group 1 of the Super 8 stage. India thrashed Zimbabwe by 72 runs, while South Africa defeated the West Indies by 9 wickets.
The India vs West Indies clash has turned into a virtual knockout match. The winner of the match will qualify for the semi-finals. With the last round of matches remaining, here’s a look at how the semifinal clashes are taking shape.
India’s path to the final could run through either England or New Zealand

South Africa defeated the West Indies to seal the top spot in Group 1 of the Super 8 stage. The Proteas are on a fabulous run and are the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far. India and the West Indies will now face off for the remaining semi-final spot on Sunday, March 1.
In Group 2, England have already qualified for the semis after beating Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super 8 stage. On the other hand, New Zealand are currently in the second position after their big win against Sri Lanka. Now, England will face New Zealand as both teams lock horns to grab the No. 1 spot.
As it stands, the semi-final match-up is straightforward – the table-topper of Group 1 in the Super 8 phase will meet the second-placed team of Group 2. With the Proteas in a strong spot to hold the No. 1 spot in Group 1, India will take the second spot if they overcome the Windies.
In Group 2, it’s a straight fight between New Zealand and England for the top spot. If England beat New Zealand, England will finish as table-toppers, meaning they will face the hosts India if they secure their place in the semifinals, and South Africa will face New Zealand.
In the second scenario, if New Zealand beat England, they will take the No. 1 spot in Group 2. In this case, New Zealand will potentially take on India, and England will battle against South Africa. Pakistan, too, have an outside chance, but their chances are too low.
In simple terms, if India qualify for the semis, they will face the winner of the England vs New Zealand match. The loser of the match will face South Africa.
As things stand, semi-final 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will take place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 4, while semi-final 2 will take place at the Wankhede Stadium on March 5.
The final will take place on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. With the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in the decisive phase, things are getting heated up with a semi-final spot up for grabs.
