The Indian Cricket Team had a change in the coaching department a few months ago.
The Indian cricket team’s coaching department, headed by Gautam Gambhir, has come under heavy scrutiny and criticism following the team’s diabolical performances in their tenure.
The Men In Blue underwent a significant change in their backroom staff following the departure of Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff who coached the team to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title.
Gautam Gambhir replaced Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team across formats and brought in his set of coaches.
Gambhir roped in two assistant coaches – Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, who were with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024. Morne Morkel, who worked with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants, was appointed as the bowling coach, replacing Paras Mhambrey.
However, and interestingly, the identity of India’s batting coach is unknown.
Who is Indian Cricket Team’s batting coach?
As of now, there is no designated batting coach of the Indian team. Gambhir has two assistant coaches, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate, but there is no specific batting coach yet.
Under the new coaching staff, India lost an ODI series in Sri Lanka. They suffered heavily in test cricket by getting 3-0 whitewashed at home for the first time as New Zealand registered their maiden test series win in India, ending India’s 12-year series-winning streak at home.
While India did bounce back to win in Perth, they suffered a 10-wicket humiliation in Adelaide and have also fallen behind in Brisbane. India’s batting has largely been abysmal in these losses and it can be attributed to the lack of a proper batting coach.
It’s also quite shocking that India don’t have a designated batting coach, while their batsmen’s frailties in challenging conditions – be it on spin-friendly tracks or swing and seam-favoring conditions – have been laid bare in Gambhir’s tenure.
