BR Sharath replaced injured Robin Minz in the Gujarat Titans squad for the IPL 2024 season.

Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, the Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered two huge blows as their veteran speedster Mohammed Shami and youngster Robin Minz were ruled out of the entire 2024 edition.

The Jharkhand-born cricketer Minz, who was acquired by GT for a whopping Rs 3.60 crore in the auction, suffered a bike accident earlier this month. The young lad was all set to become the first tribal player to be featured in the prestigious tournament. But now he has been ruled out of the tournament. “He lost control when his bike came in contact with another bike. Nothing serious at the moment and he is currently under observation,” Robin’s father Francis told News18 while talking about Robin’s accident.

Just before the start of the cash-rich league 2024, last year’s runners-up GT named BR Sharath as Minz replacement on March 22. The Karnataka player was acquired by the Gujarat-based franchise for his base price of INR 20 lakhs. Apart from Sharath, GT also have Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade as their specialist wicket-keepers.

Confirming the same, official IPL website released a statement. The statement read, “Gujarat Titans (GT) added B R Sharath to their squad as replacement for the injured Robin Minz for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.”

Who is Gujarat Titans’ BR Sharath?

Sharath is a wicket-keeper batter from Karnataka. He broke into the side’s playing XI in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2018–19. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) saw his talent and then decided to send him to train at the Durham County Cricket Cricket Club for a six-week program in 2015.

The right-handed batter also had a fair amount of experience in Indian domestic cricket while playing for Karnataka since making his debut in 2018. In 28 games in T20 cricket, the 27-year-old has amassed 328 runs at a strike rate of 118.84.

In 20 First Class matches and 43 List A games, Sharath has smashed 616 and 732 runs, respectively. As a wicket-keeper, the young lad has taken 19 catches along with nine stumpings in T20s.

It is to be noted that the newly acquired GT player hasn’t played any form of cricket this year. Sharath last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2023.
