Who is Gurjapneet Singh? All you need to know about pacer whom CSK bought at IPL 2025 mega auction for 2.2 crores
Gurjapneet Singh was bought by CSK for INR 2.2 crores.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were involved in a bidding contest with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction for pacer Gurjapneet Singh on the second day of the event.
The mega auction spanned across Sunday and Monday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
One of the interesting acquisitions from the five-time champions Chennai was Gurjapneet, who is quite an unknown entity among the fans.
As CSK looked to build their pace attack, having retained Matheesha Pathirana and buying Sam Curran, they went after a few Indian pacers. They roped in Mukesh Choudhary, Anshul Kamboj, and Gurjapneet Singh.
While Choudhary has been with CSK before and Kamboj recently made headlines for becoming only the third bowler in the history of Ranji Trophy to picked up all 10 wickets in an innings, little is known about Gurjapneet.
Who is Gurjapneet Singh?
Gurjapneet is a 26-year-old, 6’3″ tall left-arm pacer who was born in Ludhiana (Punjab), grew up in Ambala (Haryana), and now plays domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu. He moved to Chennai when he was 17 years old. He was with CSK previously as a net bowler.
Gurjapneet has very little experience in domestic cricket, having played only four First Class matches and one T20 game.
However, he’s been highly impressive in these games: he has 13 First Class wickets at an average of 19 and two wickets at 14 in his sold T20 match for Tamil Nadu.
The best moment of Gurjapneet’s short domestic career was when he dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara lbw for a duck last month in a Ranji Trophy game. He claimed 6/22 on his Ranji debut against Saurashtra, which are the best figures in a First Class innings by a Tamil Nadu seamer at home since 2005-06.
Also, one of the moment to savor for Gurjapneet was when he bowled Virat Kohli at the Chepauk nets prior to the India vs Bangladesh test match in Chennai earlier this year.
