Jake Fraser-Mcgurk will don the Delhi Capitals jersey in the IPL 2024.

The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is just a few days away. Cricketers from across the globe will assemble for different IPL franchises in India ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

While the cash-rich league could be the best possible preparation for Indian as well as overseas players, some IPL teams have faced many problems as their star-studded players will not be available due to several reasons.

From Mohammed Shami to Harry Brook, several players will be away from the upcoming edition of the IPL. In this latest update, a new name has also been added as South African pacer Lungi Ngidi will miss the whole tournament due to an unfortunate injury.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) on Friday, 15th March, roped in Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as Ngidi’s replacement. The Australian all-rounder will don the DC jersey this season for his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

Who is Jake Fraser-McGurk?

Jake Fraser-McGurk is the latest sensation in Australian cricket and was also backed by the legendary player Ricky Ponting after his outstanding show in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023–24 season.

Moreover, Ponting added that the 21-year-old all-rounder is the future test player, stating that McGurk reminds him of young David Warner. The legendary batter is currently the head coach of the DC franchise, and it makes clear that Ponting might’ve had a huge hand in signing the young Australian all-rounder.

In the BBL 2023–24, the right-handed batter amassed 257 runs at a strike rate of 158.64 while playing for the Melbourne Renegades.

The young batter was also part of the Dubai Capitals in the recently concluded ILT20 and played three games where his strike rate was more than 200. The Australian star also made his ODI debut earlier this year against the West Indies in February, playing two games at home. In two innings, McGurk smashed 51 runs at a strike rate of 221.73.

Although he hasn’t made his T20I debut yet, Fraser-McGurk has a reputation as a big hitter, having a strike rate of 133.54 in 37 T20 matches he has played till now.

Fraser-McGurk holds the world record for hitting fastest ever century in List A cricket. He achieved the feat in just 29 deliveries in October 2023. With this century, Fraser-McGurk broke legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers’ 31-ball ton record, which he achieved in an ODI against West Indies in 2015.

Delhi Capitals updated squad for IPL 2024:
