Mithun Manhas, according to reports, is all set to become the next BCCI president.
Mithun Manhas, the former captain of Delhi, is poised to become the first Indian cricketer without an international cap to lead the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 45-year-old unexpectedly became the front-runner to assume the position of board president on Saturday (20th September).
Following a long and acrimonious meeting between the BCCI administrators in New Delhi, the development came to light, as per the Indian Express.
Nominations are due on Sunday, and the selections will take place on September 28. But in the past five years, the BCCI president has consistently been chosen without any opposition. Additionally, the Indian board has been eager to have a former cricket player lead the team in previous years, similar to Roger Binny and Sourav Ganguly.
Who is Mithun Manhas?

One could argue that Manhas is among the unluckiest players. The 45-year-old player debuted professionally for Delhi during the 1997–98 campaign. Facing stiff competition from players like Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Sachin Tendulkar, Manhas was unlucky to appear in the Indian squad. He did, however, succeed in making a name for himself on the home circuit.
But in the Delhi dressing room, the right-handed hitter was a source of inspiration. Manhas led the team for most of the new era, while star players like Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were primarily away on national team duties. In fact, during his early years in domestic cricket, the renowned Virat Kohli also played under Manhas’ leadership.
Manhas had his best season in 2007–08, leading Delhi to a Ranji Trophy victory and ending their protracted title drought.
Even though Gambhir captained the team in both the semifinal and the championship game, Manhas finished the season with 921 runs at 57.56. He moved from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir in 2015 in preparation for the next Ranji Trophy season. Manhas moved his base to his birthplace of Jammu & Kashmir in 2015.
Mithun Manhas’s cricket records
He participated in 157 First-Class games and amassed 9714 runs, including 27 hundreds, during that time. In addition, he has participated in 91 T20 matches for Delhi, scoring 1170 runs, and 130 List A games, scoring 4126 runs.
Manhas’s highest FC score was 205*, while his List-A best score was 148. In T20s, he managed only one fifty, with the highest score of 52.

Mithun Manhas played the majority of his career for Delhi in Indian domestic cricket. Only in 2015 did he shift to Jammu and Kashmir, playing for two seasons before retiring from cricket.
Manhas’s claim to fame came when he appeared in 55 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from 2008 to 2014. He made his debut and played the first three IPL seasons for the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), scoring 75 runs in 10 games in 2009 and 157 runs in 9 games in the 2010 IPL.
Manhas then moved to the now-defunct Pune Warriors team, playing three seasons for them and scoring 114, 120, and 13 games for. His last IPL season came in 2013, for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), scoring 35 runs in 12 games.
He made a comeback to the IPL in 2017 as Punjab’s assistant coach before being selected the same year to serve as the batting consultant for the Bangladesh Under-19 squad. He joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as their assistant coach after two years in that capacity, and he still holds the same position with the Gujarat Titans (GT) now.
