Ryan Rickelton was bought by MI at IPL 2025 mega auction.

South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton will be part of his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) season next year as he was roped in by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The IPL 2025 mega auction resumed on Monday, which is the second day of the two-day event in Saudia Arabia.

MI had bought only four players on day 1 of the auction. Their first purchase on day 2 was Rickelton. MI managed to get Ryan Rickelton at his base price of INR 1 crore.

Who is Ryan Rickelton?

Rickelton is a 28-year-old wicket-keeper and left-handed opener from South Africa, who plays for MI Cape Town, a sister franchise of Mumbai Indians, in the SA20 competition. Rickelton has played in seven tests, five ODIs, and 12 T20Is for South Africa and has been touted as a replacement of Quinton de Kock in the white-ball teams.

In 17 matches in SA20 for MI Cape Town, Rickelton has scored 676 runs at an average of 42 and strike rate of 155 with five half-centuries to his name.

Since Mumbai had released Ishan Kishan, their keeper-opener of the last three seasons, and had failed to buy him back at the mega auction, they were pleased to acquire Rickelton, who performs a similar role as Kishan. Rickelton is likely to be seen opening alongside Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2025.

Apart from SA20, Rickelton has also featured in Major League Cricket in the USA and the Mzansi Super League in South Africa.

He has an experience of over 100 T20 matches, in which he’s struck one century and 17 fifties.
