Who is Sitanshu Kotak? All you need to know about NCA batting coach
Sitanshu Kotak succeeded Rahul Dravid as India A coach when Dravid was appointed as India’s head coach.
Former Saurashtra legend in batting and known as domestic cricket’s ‘Wall’, Sitanshu Kotak is likely to accompany the Indian Cricket Team for a short tour of Ireland later this month. India will be touring Ireland for the 3-match series against Ireland right after their West Indies tour gets over. Rahul Dravid will be taking time off from his busy schedule and has decided to rest from the tour.
With VVS also busy with the emerging camp, the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) batting coach and former Saurashtra legend will be most likely taking up the responsibility as head coach for the tour. India’s tour of Ireland will begin on August 18 in Malahide, and the final T20I will be played on August 23.
Who is Sitanshu Kotak?
Sitanshu Kotak is known for his grit and determination in domestic cricket. Just like Amol Majumdar and a few other batters, Kotak was born in the wrong era. Known for his long, tiring innings for the bowlers, Kotak is now serving as a batting coach at the NCA. In his 20-year-long career for Saurashtra, Kotak scored 8061 runs in 130 first-class matches, including 15 centuries and 55 half-centuries. Kotak’s average when he retired was 41.76, which is remarkable for a batter of that period. Sitanshu Kotak picked up 70 wickets in his first-class career as a part-timer.
Sitanshu Kotak’s Coaching career
Sitanshu Kotak has been associated with the Saurashtra team in the Indian domestic setup and led them to Ranji Trophy title in 2020. Since then, Saurashtra have remained a force to reckon with in the Ranji Trophy. They again became champions in the next season after defeating Bengal in the final. Sitanshu Kotak was immediately picked as a replacement in the India A camp after Rahul Dravid was appointed head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Once again, he will be succeeding Rahul Dravid in the national team’s camp for the upcoming Ireland tour. Earlier, VVS Laxman replaced Rahul when he took a break.
India will play a three-match T20I series against Ireland to explore the options for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies and US next year. Jasprit Bumrah will be making his comeback in the Indian team after almost a year and also as a leader. Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma have gotten reward for the good work they have done in the Indian Premier League for their respective franchises. Rinku came out as a star in the IPL 2023 and will have an opportunity to replicate his performance in the International arena. After the Ireland tour, the full-fledged Indian team and camp will be back in business for the Asia Cup 2023.
