Vipraj Nigam hails from Uttar Pradesh and made a name for himself in UP T20 League 2024

Leg-spin bowling all-rounder Vipraj Nigam has made headlines as he made his Delhi Capitals (DC) debut on Monday, 24th March against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. At last year’s major auction in Jeddah, the Uttar Pradesh 20-year-old was bought by DC for Rs. 50 lakhs.

Nigam jumped to fame in his first match itself as he picked one wicket for DC when he removed dangerous-looking Aiden Markram for only 15 runs. Despite this, LSG managed to post 209/8 in 20 overs. This was all thanks to Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran’s half-centuries and David Miller’s 27* in the death overs.

DC’s chase got off to a very poor start as they were reduced to 7/3 and 113/6 at one stage. Then, Vipraj Nigam joined Ashutosh Sharma, and the duo bludgeoned the LSG bowlers, adding 55 runs in 22 balls to bring DC back into the game.

Nigam impressed one and all with his clean hitting as he scored 39 runs in just 15 balls with five fours and two sixes, setting the platform for Ashutosh to launch a scathing attack in the last three overs and win DC the match by just 1 wicket.

Who is Vipraj Nigam, who helped DC win the game against LSG?

An outstanding performance in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he took eight wickets in seven games, brought fame to Uttar Pradesh leg spinner Vipraj Nigam. In a match against Andhra Pradesh, he scored 27 runs off of just eight balls, demonstrating his batting skill.

When he made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in every format, his domestic career took off. He played in seven Twenty20 matches, five List-A games, and three First-Class matches during the 2024–25 season, scoring 103 runs and taking nine wickets.

Then, during the UPT20 2024 season, the young all-rounder made his debut, playing 12 games for the UP Falcons and capturing 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.45 and a strike rate of 11.15.

In the Delhi Capitals’ intra-squad practice match before IPL 2025, Nigam displayed his batting prowess by hitting an incredible 54 off 29 deliveries, including two sixes and seven fours.
