IPL 2026: Who replaced Jack Edwards in SRH squad for upcoming tournament

Jack Edwards has been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a foot injury.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will start their journey in the Indian Premier League 2026 with the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The tournament opener will take place on March 28 at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
SRH bought 10 players in the IPL 2026 mini-auction last year. Liam Livingstone was their costliest pick for INR 13 crore. They also grabbed Australian bowling all-rounder Jack Edwards for INR 3 crore. He was set to make his debut in the upcoming season; however, he has been ruled out due to an injury.
Edwards suffered a foot injury earlier this month after representing his domestic team, New South Wales, in the Sheffield Shield. He was an uncapped overseas player when he was picked at the auction.
He had a successful season for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 earlier this year. He also made his international debut for Australia in the T20I series against Pakistan in January. He has only played one T20I game so far.
David Payne replaces Jack Edwards in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s squad
SRH have named England pacer David Payne as the replacement for Jack Edwards in IPL 2026. So far, the left-arm pacer has played one ODI for England against the Netherlands in June 2022. Payne will make his debut in the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad will miss captain Pat Cummins in the initial matches of IPL 2026. Cummins is recovering from a back injury. Ishan Kishan has been named as the interim captain, while Abhishek Sharma has been named as his deputy.
After the opening game against RCB on March 28, SRH will clash with the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 2. Their first home game will be against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 5, followed by an away clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 11.
Note: Only the schedule for the first 20 games has been announced by the BCCI so far.
