Why are Akeal Hosein & Prashant Veer not playing tonight’s GT vs CSK clash of IPL 2026?

Akeal Hosein and Prashant Veer played in CSK’s previous game of IPL 2026.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are locking horns tonight in the Indian Premier League 2026. The venue of the 66th match of the tournament is Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat have already qualified for the playoffs, having won eight and lost five of 13 games. With 16 points, the Shubman Gill-led side are placed second in the points table. A victory against CSK will increase their chances of a top-two finish.
On the other hand, CSK are placed seventh, with six victories and seven defeats out of 13 games. They need to defeat GT to keep their playoffs hopes alive, but their qualification also depends on the result of other matches.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to field first in the encounter. Surprisingly, Akeal Hosein and Prashant Veer are not part of CSK’s playing XI. Both of them featured in CSK’s previous game against SRH.
Why are Akeal Hosein & Prashant Veer missing GT vs CSK match?

While Hosein has been benched due to conditions, Veer has been dropped for the encounter. Gurjapneet Singh and Matt Short were picked as replacements.
Speaking at the toss, Gaikwad said, “We’re gonna bowl first. Obviously there is some pace and bounce in the pitch and we want to exploit it early on. So that’s the only reason we are bowling first. We’ve got a couple of changes. Obviously, according to the conditions, Akeal misses out unfortunately. And Gurjapneet comes in. And we got Matt Short playing in place of Prashant Veer”.
Prashant failed to make a mark with his performance, scoring just 90 runs in six games at a strike rate of 134.32. Hosein has taken eight wickets in seven games at an economy of 8.02. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is also absent from the CSK’s playing XI once again.
CSK’s playing XI vs GT: Sanju Samson (w), Ruturaj Gaikwad (C), Urvil Patel, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Matthew Short, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, Spencer Johnson, Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh.
