Anshul Kamboj has been added as a cover in the India squad for the last two tests.

The Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team are gearing up for the fourth test of the five-match series at Old Trafford, Manchester, slated to commence on July 23. It is a must-win game for the Shubman Gill-led side to keep their chances of series victory alive.

England lead the five-match test series 2-1 and need one more victory to seal the series. Notably, India have a big test in the next game in Manchester as they have never defeated the Ben Stokes-led side at the venue in the longest format of the game. Out of nine games, England have won four matches while five ended in a draw.

Ahead of the fourth test, India have been jolted with injuries to some key players. Notably, Rishabh Pant reportedly is not completely fit to keep the stumps. Pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep have sustained injuries as well.

As a result, uncapped pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the India squad as a cover for the next two tests. On that note, below are three reasons why Kamboj should make his test debut in the Manchester test.

ENG vs IND: 3 reasons why Anshul Kamboj should make test debut in the Manchester test

1. Great First-Class record

The right-arm pacer has a brilliant record in first-class cricket. He represents the Haryana team in the Indian domestic circuit. He has clinched 79 wickets in 24 games at an average of 22.88. During Ranji Trophy 2024-25, he clinched a 10-wicket haul in an innings during a clash against Kerala. He became the third player to achieve the record in the Ranji Trophy.

2. Injuries to Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep

Ahead of the Manchester test, Arshdeep Singh injured his hand during the training sessions. Moreover, Akash Deep struggled with a groin injury in the previous test. He has been suffering from a sore back ahead of the fourth test. In such a scenario, Kamboj should be given an opportunity in the playing XI.

3. Impressive performance for India A against England Lions

Kamboj was part of India A in the unofficial test series against England Lions. The right-arm seamer picked up five wickets across two games. He also scored an unbeaten half-century in one match. Hence, Kamboj was quite successful against England Lions and deserves a place in the Indian team for the fourth test.
