Finn Allen was part of KKR’s previous matches in IPL 2026.
The three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have had a horrible start in the IPL 2026. The team, which won the title in 2024, is struggling for their first win. They finished in the bottom three last season and are currently in tenth place.
KKR have lost four matches, and one more will only make things worse for them going forward. They are currently facing the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing game at Narendra Modi Stadium.
KKR have won the toss and made a bold decision to bat first. They lost the last game against CSK. So, KKR must have discussed that ahead of this crucial game. However, KKR surprised everyone with a big change in their playing XI.
Why is Finn Allen not playing the GT vs KKR clash of IPL 2026?
The big news from the KKR camp is that star Kiwi opener Finn Allen is not part of the playing XI. This came as a surprise to many fans as Allen entered IPL 2026 in excellent form. He scored 298 runs at a strike rate of 200, including a 33-ball century in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Allen played a couple of good cameos at the start of the IPL 2026. But in the last three innings, he has failed to touch the 10-run mark and has been out after scoring 6, 9 and 1 runs, respectively. Hence, KKR have decided to drop him from the playing XI.
His counterman, Tim Seifert, has replaced him in the playing XI. Seifert is also in good form and finished the T20 World Cup 2026 with 326 runs. KKR will hope that he can carry his good form into the team and give the team a good start.
Notably, KKR are struggling within the powerplay, and Seifert’s inclusion will add more variety to the squad. Because, unlike Allen, who likes to hit the ball straight, Seifert can play scoop and reverse-scoop with good precision.
