India's tour of West Indies 2023
Revealed: Why India & West Indies players left the field before start of the 3rd T20I in Guyana
Fans were confused to see India and West Indies players walk off the pitch before match started.
Cricket which is often celebrated for its captivating twists and turns, witnessed an unprecedented moment at Guyana Stadium at the third T20I between India and West Indies. The stage was set for an intense clash between cricketing giants, but an unforeseen hiccup turned the spotlight onto an unusual aspect of the game, the 30-yard circle. As players marched onto the field, an issue emerged that left everyone confused. The commentators’ revealed the reason behind the unexpected delay of the game as the crucial 30-yard circle had been left unmarked.
The visitors, eager to reclaim their winning streak, entered the field. However, amidst the anticipation, a glaring irregularity stole the spotlight, the 30-yard circle, an essential component of the game’s mechanics, was absent. The commentators couldn’t hide their disbelief and said funnily. “It’s overcast as the players walk out to the middle.” And then they revealed the reason, that the 30-yard circle wasn’t marked and players returned to the pavilion, the commentators on air said “It’s because the 30-yard circle isn’t marked out. So bizarre. The players are now heading back to the pavilion.”
Interestingly, this isn’t cricket’s first encounter with an incident relating to a 30-yard circle. During the second Pakistan vs. New Zealand ODI at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, a pause in the play occurred as umpire Aleem Dar spotted an incorrectly marked 30-yard circle. Ground staff were instructed to rectify it on April 29, 2023.
Amidst the drama of the unmarked circle, the Indian team’s recent performance adds another layer of intrigue. Consecutive losses in the preceding matches cast a shadow of doubt.
India have lost both their T20I matches against the hosts in the five-match T20I series. It will be important for India to secure a win, boosting their confidence for the next two games and the upcoming major tournaments this year.
India make two changes for the 3rd T20I; Yashasvi Jaiswal makes his debut.
Winning the toss, the hosts elected to bat first, while they go with one change as Jason Holder misses out and Roston Chase replaces him. Talking about changes in the visitors’ side, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made his test debut in the same particular series, is marking his entry in the shorter format as well. While Kuldeep Yadav, who missed out on the last game due to an injury, has replaced Ravi Bishnoi in the XI, Ishan Kishan is also benched in place of debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal.
