IND vs USA: Why is Jasprit Bumrah not playing tonight's clash in T20 World Cup 2026?

India are starting their stint in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with a clash against the USA. The IND vs USA, match 3, got underway on February 7 (Saturday). The venue of the encounter is Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India and the USA are placed in Group A in the 20-team tournament.

India suffered a blow at the start as they lost the toss. USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and opted to field first in the match. However, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav mentioned that they were looking to bat first in the encounter.

At the toss, the Indian captain revealed India’s playing XI for the clash. Shockingly, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was not part of the encounter. Bumrah is the most crucial pacer in India’s squad, and his absence from the opening game came as a big surprise for many cricket fans.

Notably, Bumrah missed the match due to illness. Ahead of the game, some reports claimed that the senior Indian pacer was suffering from a viral fever and might miss the opening game.

He was also absent from the training session at the stadium on Saturday morning. Surya confirmed the news at the toss. He also added that Mohammed Siraj replaced him in the playing XI.

“We were looking to bat first. Wicket looks good, there is wind around so we don’t expect dew. It’s alive even before the game starts and I am sure it is going to be even better. We have Washi missing out, Sanju missing out. Unfortunately Bumrah is not well so Siraj is playing,” Suryakumar said.
