Shakib Al Hasan made his international debut in 2006.
Bangladesh‘s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has found himself in the middle of a controversy again. The 37-year-old southpaw, known for his remarkable contribution to Bangladesh cricket, has been suspended from bowling in all competitions organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
This suspension underlines another disappointing chapter in what has been a tough year for Shakib. Earlier this year, Shakib was named in a charge-sheet for murder following political turmoil in Bangladesh. It led to his absence in the country’s home games against South Africa.
Shakib also missed what was supposed to be his farewell test series against South Africa as protests spread outside Dhaka. His absence from international cricket resulted in Bangladesh’s poor form, including a 1-2 ODI series defeat to Afghanistan and a 0-3 whitewash against the West Indies.
Why Shakib Al Hasan has been banned by the ECB from bowling ?
To add more to Shakib’s tensions, now he has been suspended by the ECB from bowling in all competitions which are hosted by the board. Shakib received the suspension after his bowling action was reported for suspect action (chucking) in September by the umpires during a County Championship match between Surrey and Somerset.
Following this incident, an assessment of his action was conducted at the Loughborough University. The assessment revealed that Shakib’s elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree limit set by the ICC.
The ECB statement read, “The Bangladesh all-rounder has been suspended after an independent assessment of his bowling action at Loughborough University.“
To overturn the ECB’s decision, the all-rounder will need to undergo re-assessment and prove that his action adheres to the standard regulations.
Shakib Al Hasan stands as the greatest cricketer in Bangladesh’s history. The star all-rounder has scored 14,730 runs and taken 712 wickets in international cricket. He was also Bangladesh’s leading run scorer in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 with 606 runs.
