Shubman Gill walked out to bat at four but walked back after just three balls.

The Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive injury scare amid the ongoing day two of the first test against the South African cricket Team. Captain Shubman Gill walked off the field after facing discomfort in his neck at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Gill walked out to bat four after Washington Sundar fell in the first session of day two. The skipper looked in great touch as he slammed a brilliant four on the third ball that he faced but that led to his downfall as well.

As he played the shot, Gill held his neck and looked in immense pain. The physio came out to attend to him and he wasn’t deemed fit to resume his batting and walked off the field. He looked very stiff as he walked back to the dressing room and wasn’t moving his neck at all.

Things looked serious for him and there is no confirmation whether he will bat in the first innings again or not. If he doesn’t walk out to bat again then it will be a big blow for India, who have struggled to get going against the South African spinners on day two.

Shubman Gill has been in red-hot form in test cricket ever since he has been appointed as the captain. He played a great role in England in the five-test series, hitting 754 runs and then also carried his form with the bat in the West Indies series.

Coming to the match, India lost three wickets in the first session on day two. South African spinners have bowled incredible lines and lengths and the pitch has also supported them.

The onus now will be on Ravindra Jadeja and Dhruv Jurel to bail the team out of trouble. Also, management would be hoping that Shubman Gill gets fit as soon as possible and helps his team win.

BCCI provides injury update on Shubman Gill

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also provided an update about Shubman Gill, saying that the test captain has suffered neck spasm and is under the observation of medical team. The statement read:

“Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress.”

Shubman Gill didn’t return to bat in the first innings and in his absence Rishabh Pant is leading the team in the second innings.
