Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit 14 sixes in his brilliant knock of 171 for India U19 against UAE U19 in Asia Cup 2025.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, India’s new teenage sensation, turned the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 into his own theatrical show, scoring an incredible 171 against UAE at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai on Friday (December 12).

The 14-year-old left-handed opener strode out with fearless determination and tore away the UAE bowling attack, giving India U-19 the perfect start in the tournament. Vaibhav scored his century in just 56 balls, hitting five fours and nine massive sixes along the way.

In the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 opener in Dubai, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has been in brilliant form in all formats, played every stroke with immense confidence and comfort, rendering the UAE bowlers powerless.

With nine boundaries and fourteen sixes, the youthful opener’s fast-paced knock came to an end at 171 off just 95 balls when Uddish Suri bowled him around his legs during a paddle sweep. He had tragically failed to change the course of history.

Here is the reason why Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s scintillating 171 won’t be counted in record books

The Rajasthan Royals sensation could have broken Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing record of 177 in Youth ODIs with an additional seven runs. However, the ton will not be counted in his official stats and will be added to his stunning stats in Youth ODIs for the Indian U-19 team.

Suryavanshi’s knock would have been the second-highest individual score by an Indian and the third-fastest ton in Youth ODI cricket. In the meantime, he set a world record by hitting 14 sixes in the inning.

That won’t happen, though, because this knock doesn’t appear in the record books. This is because there is no official Youth ODI status for the match.

The UAE is an affiliate team, which explains this. Only matches between two Test-playing countries, such as the highly anticipated India-Pakistan encounter on Sunday (December 14), are granted official Youth ODI game status in the U-19 Asia Cup.

Games involving teams from associate nations are only eligible for Youth ODI status during U-19 World Cups. Therefore, the match against Malaysia on Tuesday, December 16, will not be an official Youth ODI, but India’s match against the USA in the global event next month, on January 15, in Bulawayo, would. Vaibhav struck his first Youth ODI century earlier this year in Worcester against the England U-19.

In 52 balls, he hit a ton. In addition, the teenager has two hundreds and one fifty in Youth Test cricket, as well as three half-centuries for the juvenile Indian side in 50-over cricket.
