"Stop calling me King": Why Virat Kohli doesn't want people to call him King?

Virat Kohli attended the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru along with rest of RCB squad.
After two arduous months, star Indian batsman Virat Kohli made his long-awaited comeback to the cricket ground on Tuesday, March 19, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) unbox event.
Interestingly, Kohli took a leave of absence from the game before the five-match test series against England to spend time with his wife Anushka Sharma, with whom he was expecting their second child. The couple was blessed with a baby boy, whom they named Akaay.
After the birth of his child in February, Kohli made his cricketing comeback when he joined the RCB team training camp for 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The audience at the RCB Unbox event in Bengaluru went bonkers when they saw their favorite player, Virat Kohli.
During the event, Virat Kohli asked the host of the event, Danish Sait, to not call him ‘King’ as he felt embarrassed by it.
“Guys, we need to get to Chennai pretty quickly, we have a chartered flight so we don’t have much time. Firstly, you need to stop calling me that word (king). I was telling Faf, I feel embarrassed everywhere when you call me that and they react like that so please just call me Virat from now on. Don’t use that word, it’s very embarrassing for me,” said Kohli during the event.
Notably, Kohli’s enormous fan following and several pundits have conferred upon him the title of “King” in recognition of his astounding accomplishments in cricket. Kohli has been reverently referred to as the king of modern cricket to reflect his incredible accomplishments.
RCB changed their name to Royal Challengers Bengaluru
The fans had an incredible time at the RCB’s unpacking event, which was held at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Thousands of fans have gathered to cheer on their favorite side, and the franchise’s women’s squad is also there to mark the event.
