Alzarri Joseph picked two wickets for West Indies in the third ODI against England.

West Indies thrashed England in the third and final game of the three-match ODI series to seal a comprehensive 2-1 series win.

The game at Barbados saw the hosts restricting England to a total of 263 before chasing it down comfortably to register an eight-wicket victory. Alazarri Joseph was one of the stars of the West Indies bowling lineup returning with an impressive bowling figure of 2/45 in his 10 overs.

However, despite his excellent performance, Joseph has found himself at the centre of controversy during England’s batting innings. Alzarri’s action have led to a disciplinary two-match suspension.

Why West Indies have suspended Alzarri Joseph for two matches

The controversy took place in the fourth over of England’s innings when Joseph expressed his frustration with field placement to captain Shai Hope. Dismissing Jordan Cox on the fourth ball of the over, Joseph expressed his dissent by not joining his teammates and straight away returning to his mark.

Following his over, Joseph left the field without informing his captain or management, leaving the hosts with only 10 players on the field. Alzarri returned to the field for the sixth over, but left again after two misfields off his bowling.

Joseph returned again to complete his spell, but his actions had greatly disappointed team management, leading to a two match suspension for the youngster.

West Indies’ management addresses the incident

Speaking to TalkSPORT after the match, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed his disappointment. Sammy said, “Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field. We will be friends…but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that“.

In his post match statement, Sammy emphasized the importance of building a good team culture, he added, “I pride myself on having the difficult conversations, but in a way that everybody understands what is needed to be done. To see guys going out there and slowly progressing in the right direction makes me proud. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s one that I’m quite passionate about.

West Indies will now host England in a five-match T20I series starting from November 10.
