Roston Chase played in last match but was absent from WI vs ZIM Super 8 clash.

West Indies and Zimbabwe are locking horns in their opening game of the Super 8 round in the T20 World Cup 2026. Both teams are placed in Group 1 in Round 2 alongside India and South Africa. Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is the venue of the WI vs ZIM clash, which got underway on February 23.

The winner of the game can grab the top spot in the Group 1 points table and get a superb start in the race to the semi-finals. Out of the four teams from both groups, the top two in the points table will book a berth in the semis.

Both Zimbabwe and West Indies have been unbeaten in T20 World Cup 2026 so far, winning all of their matches in the league stage. Zimbabwe’s one game against Ireland was washed out due to rain.

In the 44th game of T20 World Cup, West Indies suffered a blow at the start as Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza won the toss and opted to bowl first. At the toss, both captains revealed that they made one change to their playing XI. While Roston Chase was absent from the West Indies’ playing XI, Wellington Masakadza was not part of Zimbabwe’s team.

At the toss, West Indies captain Shai Hope informed that seam all-rounder Roston Chase was not part of the playing XI as he was replaced by Romario Shepherd.

“We would have probably bowled first as well. (On having god memories at this ground) That’s in the past, we’ve got good history behind us, but regardless, we’ve got to play cricket well on the day. Again, we’ve got some nice confidence going into this round, but still, we’ve got to play well on the day. One change. Romario Shepherd comes back in. Roston Chase misses out,” he said at the toss.

Raza revealed that Richard Ngarava has regained his fitness and replaced Mazakdaza in the clash.

“Richard Ngarava has been declared fit, so he replaces Wellington Masakadza. (Ambition) Yeah, certainly it’s an honour to play world champions at an iconic ground like this, but certainly if you can put our best foot forward and get a good result for our country as well, then it’s certainly something to be very proud of and take those two points into the next game,” the Zimbabwe skipper stated.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI): Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani(w), Ryan Burl, Sikandar Raza (C), Tashinga Musekiwa, Tony Munyonga, Dion Myers, Brad Evans, Graeme Cremer, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani.
