Will injured Axar Patel play tonight for SRH vs DC in IPL 2026?

Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Tuesday, April 21. After defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their previous game, DC will aim for their second consecutive victory in IPL 2026.

Axar Patel is captaining the Capitals in IPL 2026. However, the star all-rounder suffered an injury scare in the previous game against RCB. Chasing 176 for victory, KL Rahul (57) and Tristan Stubbs (60*) played a crucial role in the team’s win.

Axar also added crucial 26 runs off 19 deliveries. However, he suffered severe cramps while batting. As a result, after consulting a physiotherapist, he retired hurt from the game and did not bat afterwards. Delhi Capitals won the clash by six wickets.

After the match, Patel did not attend the post-match presentation. In his absence, KL Rahul arrived alongside team director Venugopal Rao. The latter also gave an update on Axar’s condition.

“Axar Patel has had a cramp, he will be fit for the next game. Last game he has done the role, Stubbs. We are blessed to have him. Born and brought up here. Used all his experience, the kind of role we have given him, he is fulfilling it. Birthday boy,” he had said.

Axar Patel is fit to play against SRH in tonight’s game

The DC captain is completely fit to play against SRH. In the pre-match press conference, DC head coach Hemang Badani said that Axar is fit to play in the clash. The franchise also shared a video on their official X account, where Axar is attending the training sessions.

The 32-year-old all-rounder has scored 29 runs in four innings and picked up five wickets. He got out for single digits in the first three games, but looked in good form in the previous game. He has bowled at a brilliant economy of 7.52.

Axar Patel & Co. are currently placed fifth in the points table with six points, winning three and losing two of five games. Winning tonight’s clash could help them to jump to the second spot.
