Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be desperate for a win at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Their start to the new season has been a modest one, with consecutive defeats. While captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has not enjoyed any luck with the toss so far, their batting as well as bowling has been a cause of concern.

CSK‘s weaknesses were exposed against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Chepauk. Their opening woes and bowling inconsistencies came to the fore, and the five-time champions must resolve their problems at the earliest, as they prepare to take on a red-hot Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) unit, who are fresh from their dominant win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), exactly a week earlier.

Dewald Brevis is the backbone of CSK’s middle-order. Having missed the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and PBKS, CSK would be hoping to have him back in their ranks. Having smashed a total in excess of 200 against PBKS, the Yellow Army will know that Brevis’ return will only further bolster that batting unit.

As per journalist Rohit Juglan of Revsportz, Brevis will play for CSK in their fourth game against Delhi Capitals (DC), as he is still recovering from a side strain injury which he sustained during practice ahead of CSK’s first game of IPL 2026. He is expected to be back on the field for the DC clash on April 11 at M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

This means that the young South African will miss the RCB clash, which is a huge blow for CSK, who have already lost their previous two matches. On a flat track which will suit batting, CSK would have ideally wished to have Brevis back to help his team score or chase down a big score.

Brevis, who had earlier been part of Mumbai Indians, joined CSK as a replacement player last year. He impressed with 225 runs in six games at a strike rate of 180, including two half-centuries.

To add to CSK’s woes, they have been unable to replace Brevis with a quality overseas batter. The management quickly lost faith in Matt Short after his poor performance against RR in the opener, and ended up fielding only two overseas players in Noor Ahmed and Matt Henry for the match against Punjab Kings.
