Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been playing a decent brand of cricket in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. However, they have played all their games without their captain Pat Cummins. While stand-in captain Ishan Kishan has led the side well, Cummins’ absence has been felt in bowling department.
Cummins was battling back injury since last year. He suffered a lumbar stress injury during Australia’s tour to West Indies in July 2025 and missed a lot of action after that. He made a brief comeback in the Ashes 2025-26 but could only feature in one game as his injury resurfaced.
Cummins was expected to play in the T20 World Cup 2026 for Australia earlier this year but could not recover in time. He joined the SRH camp ahead of IPL 2026 but did not participate in any matches.
In the first week of April, he travelled back to Australia for a final assessment of his back injury. He successfully cleared the test and rejoined SRH squad recently. Now, he is set to play in the upcoming clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR), as confirmed by him on his Instagram.
The RR vs SRH clash will take place at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After Cummins’ return, fans are confused whether he will take the leadership duties from Kishan.

After his return, Cummins will lead SRH in the upcoming games. Under Ishan’s leadership, SRH commenced the tournament with a defeat in the tournament opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
However, they bounced back in recent games and have won four games and lost three matches out of seven so far. They would be hoping that Cummins better that record and take them to their second title win. With eight points, SRH take the fourth spot in the points table.
