Jasprit Bumrah was the leading wicket-taker in the BGT 2024-25.

India will head into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as one of the title favourites on the back of the home series win over England recently.

India are keeping a close eye on star pacer Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the tournament. The 31-year-old was the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, picking up 32 wickets at an average of 14. However, he is currently laid low due to a back injury.

The issue occurred in the last test of the BGT in Sydney when Bumrah didn’t bowl after lunch on Day 2 due to a back injury. He was sent for scans right away and didn’t bowl in Australia’s second innings.

Bumrah was included in India’s provisional 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 along with Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami as part of a three-man pace attack.

As per an ESPNcricinfo report, India will decide on Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the Champions Trophy on February 11 which is the deadline for submitting the final squads to the ICC.

The report also states that Bumrah recently underwent a back scan at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The BCCI’s medical team will now discuss with the selectors and team management before a final decision is made. Bumrah missed the entire three-ODI series against England.

India will begin their ICC Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Under the hybrid model, India will play all their matches of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, while rest of the games of the tournament will be played in Pakistan.

If Bumrah is unavailable, the Indian management is likely to consider Harshit Rana as his replacement. Rana made his ODI debut in the first match against England in Nagpur and also featured in the second ODI in Cuttack.
