LSG have struggled with their form in IPL 2026 under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have completely failed to make a mark with their performances in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Out of their eight games, they have won just two and lost six. LSG are on the verge of losing a playoffs’ berth for a third time in a row.
Despite having well-known international-level players like Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Mohammed Shami, and George Linde, the Rishabh Pant & Co. are stranded in the last spot in the points table.
Like the last season, they have struggled to put on a collective performance and have failed to dominate opposition teams. Despite having the home advantage in a few games, they could not overpower the opposition this season.
Even LSG captain Pant has flopped with his performance, except for his one fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has got out for single digits in many games and managed to reach his half-century on only one occasion. Pant is the most expensive player in IPL 2026 at his price of INR 27 crore, which Super Giants spent on him in the 2025 auction.
After failing to reach the playoffs in IPL 2024 for the first time, Lucknow looked to change their fortunes under Pant’s captaincy. However, Pant has found it challenging as well to drive the team to a successful show for two seasons in a row.
Will LSG remove Rishabh Pant after IPL 2026?
Despite Lucknow’s poor results in IPL 2026, there are no such developments that the franchise will part ways with Pant after the current season. On the contrary, the management has publicly backed Rishabh on social media posts, saying it is“just a matter of time” before things improve. Moreover, there are no reports that suggest Super Giants are looking forward to releasing him.
However, Lucknow have a few games left in IPL 2026 and if they fail to come up with a turnaround in the last phase, Pant’s captaincy might come under scanner.
Notably, Lucknow had parted ways with former captain KL Rahul after failing to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the 2024 season. Ahead of the 2026 season, they ended their partnership with mentor Zaheer Khan.
