It will be a crackerjack match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as South Africa and New Zealand face each other in the semi-final 1 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Both teams have not won the World Cup title in the 20-over and 50-over formats.

During the pre-match conference on Tuesday, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner provided a crucial update on the inclusion of Matt Henry against South Africa. The Kiwi skipper stated that Henry will have a little run before the game to see if he is ready to go, and he is landing in India on Tuesday night.
“Matt is currently in the air, he’s landing tonight, so I guess we will see how he pulls up – it is obviously quite far away from New Zealand here. But he will obviously have a little run around in the morning, see if he is ready to go, so yeah, now hopefully he is good to go,” Mitchell Santner said.
The speedster Matt Henry has performed well for the Kiwis, especially with the new ball providing crucial breakthroughs up top. So far, Henry has claimed seven wickets in seven games in the tournament with an average of 21.71, the best return of 2/3, and an economy rate of 7.41. The pacer had left the team after their final Super Eight game against England on February 27 to attend the birth of his child.
The logistical challenge is of some magnitude, as Henry was due to land in Kolkata late on the night of March 3, a mere 20 hours before the 7:00 PM kickoff. The loss of Henry would be a blow for the Black Caps’ bowling attack. If he is deemed unfit for play, New Zealand would likely turn to Jacob Duffy to fill the breach for this high-stakes knockout match.
New Zealand are already struggling with a thin squad as Micheal Bracewell is already ruled out. They would hope Matt Henry would pass the fitness test and lead the attack against South Africa. The Kiwis had already suffered a defeat at the hands of South Africa in the group stage match.
