The latest update came from CSK bowling coach Eric Simons. He spoke before the match and gave a brief update on MS Dhoni.
“Update on MS Dhoni is way above my pay grade. He’s not with us (in Delhi), but steadily improving. He’ll be ready when he’s ready, and he knows when he’s ready to play,” Simons said ahead of the game.
This clearly means Dhoni will not play in tonight’s match against DC. He has not travelled with the squad. While his recovery is going well, he is not yet ready for match action.
Meanwhile, CSK are trying to stay alive in the tournament. They recently beat Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets in a strong performance. The bowling unit has done well. Young pacer Anshul Kamboj has been impressive. He has taken 17 wickets and is among the top performers this season.
Simons hailed Anshul for his stellar bowling in the recent matches. He said:
“Anshul went away. Anshul you see today is not this season, he started last year. The things that we worked on, he went into the domestic season and worked on different angles of approach to the crease to be more accurate with his yorkers in particular.”
CSK still have five matches left. They need to win 4 of them to reach the playoffs. Dhoni’s return could be important in the final phase. For now, fans will have to wait a little longer.
