Pat Cummins missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury.

Pat Cummins is among the five players who are missing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for Australia.

Cummins’ exclusion from the squad came after the emergence of his ankle injury following the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He finished the five-match series as Australia’s leading wicket-taker, claiming 25 wickets at an average of 21.36, playing a crucial role in their 3-1 series win.

Earlier, the Australian captain was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Cummins was SRH’s captain in IPL 2024 and led them to the final, which they lost against Kolkata Knight Riders.

He has now shared an update on his recovery and his plans for IPL 2025.

Speaking to Cricket.com.au, Cummins emphasized his goal of returning to action with the IPL 2025. He explained that bowling four overs in a T20 game would be a good buildup for the ICC World Test Championship final in June.

Cummins said, “That’s the aim, It’s four overs in T20s. So physically it’s quite a nice build up for the World Test Championship final, and then the test matches after that. That’s the aim at this stage – start bowling over the next week or so, building up, and should be right for IPL.

Cummins noted that the high intensity of the IPL will help him in finding his bowling rhythm as he will be returning from an injury layoff.

He added, “It’s probably just making sure you’re still bowling quite a few balls (during the IPL). The good thing about a T20 tournament is the intensity is really high, so that obviously helps quite a bit.

The Australia management will hope for Cummins to be in ideal physical condition before the World Test Championship final against South Africa on June 11.
