Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the Ekana Stadium on May 7. With the tournament entering its final phase, every match has become important in the race to the playoffs.
RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, have looked strong once again this season. The team is aiming to defend the IPL trophy after winning their maiden title in 2025. However, injuries to key players have created concern inside the camp at a very important stage of the tournament.
One of the biggest worries for the franchise has been the fitness of England opener Phil Salt. The wicketkeeper-batter played a huge role in RCB’s title-winning campaign last year and also started IPL 2026 in excellent form. Fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on his recovery ahead of the match against LSG.

Phil Salt suffered the injury during RCB’s home game against Delhi Capitals earlier this season. The England star reportedly hurt a finger on his left hand while trying to stop a boundary near deep backward square leg during the second innings.
The injury turned out to be serious enough to keep him away from the playing XI for multiple matches. On May 4, Salt returned to the United Kingdom for scans on the injured finger.
Although RCB have not released an official statement, reports suggest that Salt also travelled back to spend time with his family while recovering. Both the player and the franchise remain hopeful that he can return to India later this month if the injury heals on time.
As of now, Salt is unlikely to feature against LSG on May 7. His absence is a major setback for RCB because he had already scored 202 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 168.33 this season.
In Salt’s absence, fellow England batter Jacob Bethell has received opportunities in the playing XI. Bethell has scored 39 runs in three matches so far. However, RCB still believe he can deliver strongly in the coming games.
