Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 league-stage fixture on Saturday, with their playoff qualification chances still alive heading into their final league game of the tournament.
PBKS made a dominant start to the season but struggled in the second half after suffering six straight defeats, which complicated their route to the playoffs.
Shreyas Iyer’s side remains in contention for a top-four finish, and a win against LSG would surely push their case forward. Several playoff qualification scenarios have emerged ahead of PBKS’ final league match. With multiple teams still mathematically alive in the race, the final set of fixtures is expected to determine the remaining playoff spot in IPL 2026.
Will PBKS qualify if they beat LSG tonight?
Punjab Kings can qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs if they beat LSG, but their qualification will also depend on other match results.
PBKS can secure qualification without heavily depending on net run rate if Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata Knight Riders, alongside a victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
However, another scenario could bring net run rate calculations into play. If both PBKS and KKR win their respective matches while RR finish on 14 points, the playoff spot may be decided by margins of victory.
In that situation, if Punjab Kings defeat LSG by 10 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders should not win by more than 60 runs or chase the target before 13.5 overs to remain behind PBKS on net run rate.
As of now, Punjab Kings remain mathematically alive in the playoff race, but qualification is not entirely in their control. Their chances will depend on both their own performance against Lucknow Super Giants and the results of other teams competing for the remaining playoff spots.
