Quinton de Kock has been in a sensational form in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

On September 5, 2023, Quinton De Kock, surprised everyone by announcing he'll be retiring from one-day international cricket. He's playing his last one-day international matches in the current ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Since he made this choice, he's been playing exceptionally well in the World Cup. In just seven matches, he scored four centuries and a total of 545 runs, which is very impressive.

Quinton De Kock acknowledged that people have tried to persuade him to change his mind about retiring from cricket, especially since he's performing exceptionally well at the Cricket World Cup. Despite these efforts, he remains firm in his decision to step away from the game.

“I’m set on my decision. It’s the end of my 50-over career. There have been one or two words said to me about it but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” he said as per ESPN Cricinfo.

When it comes to the possibility of coming back to play for the national team, De Kock wouldn't completely rule it out.

“At this point, I don’t foresee it happening. But, you never know. Strange things happen in life. It could be a possibility but I don’t think so,” he said. “There’s some good youngsters coming through anyway who will probably take my space as soon as I leave here and they will have to deal with national duties and that’s that. I don’t think I will be coming through, but you never know.”

While De Kock faced challenges during his time as a leader in the Proteas team, in his final World Cup, he has made extra efforts to support and mentor the less experienced players.

“I am just trying to help out everyone where I can,” Quinton de Kock said. “Guys are going through experiences for the first time which I have been through before so I am just trying to help the guys.” he added.

For De Kock, the most important goal is to help the Proteas win the Cricket World Cup, which has been an elusive achievement for the team. He emphasizes that personal achievements or records are not his main priority.

“I’d rather win the World Cup and score no runs, than score all the runs and not win the World Cup,” he concluded.
